This course will qualify students in HEC-RAS, one of the most extended hydraulic modelling software’s and its ArcGIS extension (HEC-geoRAS).

 

Students will be trained in the basic modelling of prismatic channels and natural riverbeds, as well as learning to simulate different hydraulic constructions. The student will also learn how to use the HEC-geoRAS extension with the goal of estimating different hydraulic parameters and defining a simulation environment.  

 

Studying the online course, students will have access to our virtual learning platform (available 24 hours) where they will find the course contents, exercises, discussion forums and additional content. In this plaftorm, students are provided with real time support from the instructor (2 hours per week) whom they can contact via direct messages to solve doubts at any moment.         Why study Arcgis / GeoRAS and HEC-RAS?

         

        HEC RAS is a simple and intuitive hydraulic modelling program that allows simulating the behaviour of a river / channel taking into account the morphology, slope and type of riverbed, including infrastructures like water intakes, bridge pillars and terrain. It allows us to learn until where does the water arrive, flooded areas, etc. and therefore, correctly design the infrastructure or learn about flood risk areas.

        HEC-GeoRAS is an extension for ArcGIS to connect both programs (HEC-RAS and ArcGIS) allowing the extraction of ArcGIS data to obtain the riverbed´s morphology, type of terrain and so on. Once the simulation is done in HEC-RAS, we can view and handle the results directly in ArcGIS.  

         

        Do I need previous knowledge?

        No, the training course starts from the very beginning. However, having prior knowledge of ArcGIS accelerates the development of the course.

         

        I don’t have ArcGIs 10. X, HEC-RAS and GeoRAS programs. What can I do?

        Esri (creators of the ArcGIS program) provides a free licence for a 2 month trail. You only need to create an account, download the program and follow the installation steps (visit their website). Nevertheless, we are available to solve any problem you may have.

        HEC-RAS and GEO RAS are programs developed by the US Corps of Engineers and available for download at their website: HEC-RAS and GeoRAS
